Our 5th Year Anniversary of the International Mobil Film Festival™ by S. Botello Productions™ took place in San Diego's Pyramid Innovation Center on the weekend of April 30 & May 1, 2016. The event venue was sponsored by David Menna's WealthWave in cooperation with Jennifer Meim Productions. Other sponsors included Red Giant software, LuLu Films, Passage Productions and SanDiegoRealEstateVeterans.com.
This year, we received over 130 qualifying mobile films and selected over 40 films which were all shot with mobile phones. Three grand prize winners were selected with a Runner Up by our 8 member Judge Panel. Attending filmmakers were Elysabeth Ongkojoyo from Indonesia, Stephanie Merell from South Carolina, Adi Spektor from Los Angeles, Lizet Berney from San Diego, Anthony De La Cruz from San Diego and a special guest from Australia representing one of our featured collaborative partner festivals, SmartFone Flick Fest in Australia: Tayla Dawson.
Speaking of Collaborative partners, we had the honor of sharing some mobile films from some of them in a special session. We mentioned Tayla Dawson from SF3, Luis Juarez, founder of IndieFone in LA came with his crew to present a full feature mobile film he is working on and Adi Spektor who was an actor in a film by founder Ruben Kazantsev of iPhone Film Festival in LA presented Departure. Other featured collaborators who shared some mobile films with our audience were Cinephone, Barcelona; Mobile Festival, Macedonia; Pacific Colors by Max Schleser representing MINA in New Zealand and Mobile Film Festival from France. A film by Jeremy Nolen Unearthed was presented and one of last year's filmmakers Jose Iturriaga presented Enemy Mine, a music video.
As if all of this was not enough, our two day event held a mobile filmmaking workshop with all the attending filmmakers from MFF2016 on Saturday. But Sunday was their big day! Sunday was the day when they took part in a Q&A panel with attendees and walked the Red Carpet before the Award Ceremony. Each attending filmmaker received a certificate of appreciation award for being a part of the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego. They were all interviewed on the red carpet with an iPhone camera and microphone, of course and also treated like stars throughout the entire event.
The winners of MFF2016 are below:
Stepan Etrych First Prize
"Bubbles Don't Lie" shot on iPhone 5
Andrew Robb Second Place
"Tofu Man" shot on Samsung Galaxy S2
Sylvain Certain Third Place
"Vicious Circle" shot on iPhone 5c
Alfonso Garcia Lopez Fourth Runner Up

A special treat awaited the attendees during our 5th Year Anniversary. A film which had not screened anywhere was privately viewed during the award ceremony. We announced an award given for Best Global iPhone Filmmaker to Conrad Mess. Conrad Mess has been one of the pioneer mobile filmmakers inspiring the global community winning about 40 awards for his iPhone shot films. We presented Time to Pay Off Debts at the end of the Awards Ceremony. #MFF2016SanDiego was a wonderul and very special event.
And now we are preparing for #MFF2017SanDiego with two competitions! More news on that coming soon!
We want to acknowledge the crew who physically helped us to put it all together: Rick Narvaez, Jennifer Meim, Krystin Cline and Michelle Stacy. Thank you for your work and assistance in making MFF2016 a huge success.
Founder Susan Botello was on San Diego's CW6 San Diego Living broadcast television on April 28, 2016 promoting the festival.
